This training includes, but is not limited to:
Booking and releasing offenders Maintaining security of the facility Escorting offenders within and/or outside the secure confines of the jail Dispensing medication Effective management techniques in managing volatile and violent offenders.
Operation of a master control system Variety of clerical duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
This position is training position in which the individual is required to master the differing functions of effective jail operations and is located in Brenham, Texas.

Education and/or Experience High school graduation or its equivalent.
This is an entry level position with no experience required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities The following knowledge must be either demonstrated to an acceptable level of proficiency prior to selection, or achieved afterward with a normal and customary time period:
Ability to obtain a working knowledge of the Jail Standards and other State statutes required in the performance of duties Ability to obtain a working knowledge of applicable County and Sheriff's Office policies and procedures.
Ability to obtain a working knowledge of department organization and functions.
Ability to obtain a working knowledge needed to use basic word processing software and Jail Management System.
Must have good interpersonal and public relations skills.
Able to understand, interpret and properly apply court orders, relevant State statutes and administrative rules including the Jail Standards and other procedures required to perform essential job duties of the position assigned.
Prepare official documents required to perform assigned functions including but not limited to forms, affidavits, incident reports, and inmate processing documents.
Proficient in the use of defensive tactics requiring physical force.
Ability to control emotions and focus on professional duties and obligations in all circumstances regardless of provocations or stress encountered.
Communicate necessary information to others in a calm, clear, dispassionate and purposeful speaking voice in all circumstances.
Create accurate, clear, concise, comprehensive, relevant and grammatically correct documents.
Work with fellow employees and citizens from diverse population groups in order to best serve the public interest.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid Texas Driver's License Ability to obtain Notary Obtain Basic TCOLE Jailers License (within one year of employment) Physical Demands Able to regularly stoop, sit, walk, run and lift up to 100 pounds.
Regularly exert physical force in order to control inmates when necessary and lift, twist, and throw persons during defensive tactics.
May sit at workstation for prolonged periods of time writing, typing, or telephoning citizens or personnel for information.
May be exposed to communicable diseases.
There is exposure to household type cleaning agents and occasional exposure to pesticides and/or smoke.
Work Environment You will have frequent contact with other employees in the assigned department and may be required to interact with employees outside of the department.
You must remain calm and professional in tense, emotionally charged, and stressful situations.
The employee is constantly required to change tasks frequently and to perform tedious work.
The employee may face difficult and stressful situations and may be required to work under time pressures to meet deadlines, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and work closely with others as part of a team.
The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate.
